“Who so breaks the hedge, the serpent shall bite.” (Ecclesiastes 10:8). We all know the story of Eve in the Bible. Eve broke the hedge, and the serpent bit her. Immediately after that, she was removed from her place of comfort, taken away from her place of enjoyment. Sorrow and pain entered her life; suffering, sickness, and diseases followed because the hedge of fire that was supposed to surround her was taken away. The Word of God in Isaiah 54:17 says that no weapon fashioned against you shall prosper—only if the hedge has not been taken away.
The Spiritual Hedge of Fire
As a child of God, there is supposed to be a spiritual hedge of fire—a ring of fire, a circle of fire—protecting you, surrounding you, and keeping forces of evil away from you, wherever you are and wherever you go. But if this hedge of fire is removed for any reason, attacks will become prevalent in your life. The reason every single attack of the enemy reaches you is because this hedge of fire has been taken away. The hedge of fire is no longer there; that is why every dart the enemy throws gets to you. When the hedge is taken away, the enemy’s curses and spells penetrate your life because the hedge has been broken.
When the Hedge is Broken
The hedge is broken, and that is why witches and wizards turn into cats at night, come to you, scratch you, and leave evil marks on your body. Even Satan himself acknowledges this hedge of protection, this circle of fire. In the book of Job, chapter 1, verse 10, Satan said to God, “Is it not because You have surrounded Job with Your hedge? Is it not because You have surrounded him with a hedge of protection? Is it not because You have surrounded his children, his family, his whole substance, everything that he has, with Your hedge of fire? Is that not why he is worshiping You? Put forth Your hand and remove that hedge, and he will curse You to Your face.”
So, even the prince of demons acknowledges this hedge. If Satan himself acknowledges this hedge, what are witches and wizards? What can they do to you if the hedge is there? The earlier you understand the things that can make this hedge be removed from you, the better equipped you will be for restoration. I am going to mention three things that can make this hedge of protection, which is supposed to repel evil forces, demons, witches, and wizards, be taken away from you.
Three Causes of a Broken Hedge
1. Sin: The First Cause
One of the primary reasons this hedge of protection can be taken away is sin. In Job 1:1, there are characteristics that Job possessed which are highlighted in the Bible: he was upright and perfect, he feared God, and he eschewed evil. The word “eschew” means to abstain from, to avoid. Job avoided evil; he abstained from immorality and wickedness. We, too, are supposed to avoid wickedness at any cost. Wherever people are making plans to harm someone or to do evil, we should stay away.
Job was upright, obedient to God’s commandments, and lived according to His ordinances. Satan is an accuser, and before he could appear to God to complain about Job, he had tried everything he could to attack him, all to no avail. The scripture says Satan is a wanderer, the prince of the air. Satan had been looking for a way to devour Job, but he couldn’t because Job eschewed evil. He must have tried many times but couldn’t penetrate because the hedge was still there.
Job lived and enjoyed life by keeping God’s commandments and living according to His ordinances. He feared God, and the scripture says in verse 5 that Job even sanctified his children because they lived a party lifestyle. Job was mindful of this, calling his children to sanctify them in case they had cursed God in their hearts. Job was concerned even about the sins his children might have committed in thought, praying for them and interceding on their behalf.
One of the ways Satan lays accusations against you is through sin. Your hedge of fire can be taken away when you allow sin into your life.
2. An Evil Foundation
Psalm 11:3 says, “If the foundation is destroyed, what can the righteous do?” A righteous person can stand on an evil foundation, and if a righteous person stands on an evil foundation, it will affect them, even in their righteousness.
If you have an evil foundation, you must pray and destroy it. Evil foundation involves giving demonic entities or evil forces the legal right to enter your life and afflict you. Evil foundation also involves being initiated into a covenant by someone related to you by blood. Your hedge can be broken even before you were born, and you will suffer the effects, with the serpent continuing to bite you because the hedge has been broken.
Some of our parents, uncles, and relatives made pledges to evil altars, dedicated us to deities, and initiated us into covenants in exchange for favors they sought at that time. Because of this, you may stand on the wrong foundation, and evil forces or demonic entities can use it to gain access to your life. If occultic people want to harm you, they first examine your foundation. If they find an evil foundation, they use it as an access point to harm you. If you are standing on an evil foundation, you must fight it. You cannot fight an evil foundation while standing on a wrong foundation.
An evil foundation can involve giving demonic entities or evil forces the legal right to enter your life and afflict you. It may include covenants made by someone related to you by blood. The hedge can be broken even before you were born, causing the serpent to bite because the hedge has been broken.
Some of our relatives made pledges to evil altars, dedicating us to deities or initiating us into covenants for favors they sought at that time. This means you may be standing on the wrong foundation, allowing evil forces or demonic entities access to your life. If occultic people wish to harm you, they first examine your foundation, using any evil foundation as an access point. If you are standing on an evil foundation, you must fight it. However, you cannot fight an evil foundation while standing on a wrong foundation.
First, you must ensure you are standing on the foundation of Christ before fighting against an evil foundation from your family. 1 Corinthians 3:11-13 says no one can lay any foundation other than Christ’s. You must stand on the foundation of Christ to combat the evil foundation of your family.
3. Visiting Evil Altars
The final way your hedge can be broken is by visiting evil altars. If you are in the habit of visiting evil altars, this breaks the hedge of fire that is supposed to surround you. Visiting evil altars means seeking solutions outside of God, which is idolatry. In modern times, idolatry manifests in various forms, such as going to a sorcerer, a diviner, or a witch doctor for insight into the future. This is idol worship. The hedge will be broken. In 1 Samuel 28, King Saul visited a sorcerer, and the result was his death. Psalm 16:4 says, “Those who rush to other gods bring many troubles upon themselves.” As soon as you engage in idol worship, the hedge is broken. When you visit these altars, the demons and spirits of those altars enter your life and become monitoring spirits that affect your life. They cannot help you; they can only compound your problems.
Restoring the Hedge of Protection
The only way to restore your hedge is to stand on the foundation of Jesus Christ, based upon His blood. Demonic forces may feed on your finances due to an evil foundation, but entering into godly covenants can stop this. By turning to God, He will guide you, showing you what you must do to destroy the evil foundation and restore your hedge.
These are the primary causes of a broken hedge, which leaves you vulnerable to attacks. To restore and keep your hedge strong, avoid sin, pray against evil foundations, and remain faithful to God, standing on the foundation of Jesus Christ. God bless you.
