In the book of 1 Cor 14, Apostle Paul described the spiritual benefits of praying in tongues.
The major benefit of praying in the Holy Ghost is that it is a means for personal spiritual edification. According to the Oxford Language Dictionary, edification is the moral or intellectual instruction or improvement of someone.
Spiritual Edification is the process of spiritual growth and development of a Christian that tends towards Christian perfection. Paul affirmed in verse 18 that he prays in tongues most of the time but only in his private devotions. In the Church or public place, he prays with his understanding so that people can learn. In the journey of personal edification, some of the benefits of praying in the Holy Spirit include:
1. Mysteries are unfolded.
” For he that speakers in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speakers mysteries” 1 Cor 14:2. When a person prays in tongues, he says things that are beyond his or any human understanding. At that instance, he is at a different realm. At that realm, his spiritual antenna is at a very high frequency, so he is able to download a lot of revelation from Heaven. When such a person lies down to sleep, hidden things around his life are exposed. Spiritual battles against his life, agenda of forces of wickedness are brought to light so that such a perso can engage effectively in spiritual warfare.
2. Praying in the Holy Spirit builds your faith.
But ye beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost. Faith cometh by hearing according to Romans 10:17 but you need to build that faith.
Heb 11:6. “But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is and a rewarded of them that diligently seek him. So without faith God is not even pleased with your prayers. As a Christian, you need to build your faith. It is faith that will make you to be steadfast in prayer. It is faith that will make you not to look elsewhere for solution.
Faith makes a man righteous. The just shall live by faith. The righteous shall live by faith. Rom 11:7, Habakuk 2:4, Galatians 3:11, James 2:23.
Heb 10:38 The just shall live by faith, but if any man draws back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
Praying in the Holy Ghost perfects your faith. You need faith to emerge victorious in spiritual warfare. When you begin warfare, the enemy will throw darts at you to make you draw back. The worst thing that can happen to a Christian is for you to retreat from a warfare. If you do, the enemy will so deal with you. If the attack is at a 40% level, the enemy will bring it to 90%. The darts the enemy throw at you in warfare is the strategy that he will employ to make you back off.
Ephesians 6:16. “Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewithal ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.” With faith, you operate above all the strategy that the forces of witchcraft and all wickedness will employ to make you quit. And one avenue to grow that faith is in praying in the Holy Spirit.
3. Praying in tongues helps you to pray in the will of God
When you start praying in the Holy Ghost at some level, prayer points will start flowing to you. If you pray those prayers, it penetrates the cloud of heaven immediately because you are praying the mind of God. 1 John 5:14. ” Now, this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” 1 Cor 3:16. “For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
Through praying in the Holy Spirit, we gain access into the immediate mind of God, and we pray according the council of heaven, so we never pray and miss. If you are not praying in tongues, then you have to desire it, pray to receive and believe in the promise of God and the Holy Spirit will give it to you.
Don’t forget that you should be born again to receive this gift. Praying or speaking in tongue is a gift of the Holy Spirit. Accept Jesus now as your personal Lord, and Saviour, confess your sins, forsake your evil ways and ask the Father to baptise you with the Holy Spirit.
The message of salvation is straightforward. ” That if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you shall be saved.” Rom 10: 9
